Biography

Hans Jurie Zietsman is an admitted Attorney and Conveyancer of the High Court of South Africa and an experienced in-house Senior Legal Counsel with an international career spanning the engineering, construction, energy, petrochemical, and mining sectors.

Zietsman obtained his LLB degree from the University of Pretoria in 2006. He subsequently completed a Master of Laws (LLM) in Contract Law at the University of Pretoria in 2010, followed by a second Master of Laws (LLM) in Construction Law and Practice from the University of Salford in the United Kingdom in 2017. In recognition of his academic achievement, he became a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society after ranking within the top 15% of his LLB cohort.

The University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Law is a leading law faculty, with a longstanding national and international reputation. The Faculty was ranked among the top 100 law faculties worldwide and the best in Africa and South Africa (2002).

Zietsman commenced his legal career at Ross & Jacobsz, a South African law firm established in 1892, where he served his articles and practised as an attorney and conveyancer from January 2006 to May 2009.

In June 2009, he joined Foster Wheeler in its Contracts Department. He was promoted to Legal Counsel in August 2013 and was subsequently assigned to the company’s operational headquarters in the United Kingdom. Following the combination of Amec and Foster Wheeler, he continued his career with Amec Foster Wheeler and was promoted to Senior Legal Counsel in April 2017.

In December 2017, Zietsman joined Qatar Chemical Company in Qatar as Senior Legal Counsel, a position he continues to hold.

His professional experience encompasses major engineering and construction projects, commercial and corporate matters, contract negotiation and management, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, international sanctions and export controls, antitrust and competition law, anti-bribery and corruption, and corporate governance. His sector experience extends across oil and gas, energy, petrochemicals, mining and mineral processing, and engineering and construction.

Zietsman has also acted as an arbitrator and adjudicator in engineering and construction disputes. He is a member of the Association of Arbitrators and is registered with the Legal Practice Council, Gauteng Provincial Office.
